Let me start in Genesis 3:15 which says: “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” I think we can all agree this verse is the first Gospel proclamation in the entire Bible. God is passing out judgment on all who were involved in the fall of man: Adam, Eve, the serpent, and creation itself are now all under a curse. The Garden of Eden, which was planted by no other than God, is no more as all parties involved are evicted from “Paradise” where the Tree of Life is located. I found it interesting to know that Eden actually means Paradise. Now, the Bible says there are two offsprings or “seeds.” The Bible later defines these as the “offspring of Abraham” and the “offspring of Satan.” Augustine later described these 2 seeds as the City of Man (children of the devil) and the City of God (the People of God, the Church, etc.). Since at least with the Fall of Man, these 2 offsprings have been at war, a war the Bible calls “spiritual warfare” and the cosmic battle between Satan and God. Spoiler alert, Jesus Christ is victorious!! 1 John 3:9-10 goes on to say: “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.” One important thing we need to know is Romans 8:19-22 which says “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” God will not allow Satan to ruin His creation. GOD will not be satisfied until every sin, every sorrow, and every THORN is reckoned with. One aspect of the atonement is Christ died to redeem CREATION along with man. The Redemption Story tells us that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, came to rescue His people (the offspring of Abraham) and His Creation from the grasp of His enemy…crushing Satan’s head and finally defeating death…the last enemy. Just who is the offspring of Abraham? Galatians 3:6 says: “Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness, then understand that those who have faith are Abraham’s sons. So those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith.” The offspring of Abraham is not just ethnic Israel, it includes some of ethnic Israel and also all those who have faith in the God of Abraham…Yahweh. The people of God includes all those who believe…the old testament saints, the church, and will one day include every tribe, every tongue, every language, and every nation. This includes ethnic Israel, God will graft them into the wild olive tree again (Romans 11) along with every other “nation.” But don’t be deceived, according to Romans 4:16-17 the promise rests on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations.” Why is it important to teach the believers who share the faith of Abraham in the God of the Bible are his offspring? First, it is the clear teaching of Scripture, for example, Galatians 3:29 NLT says: “ And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you”. And if we believe this verse than Hebrews 2:16 should encourage us: “For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham”. The promises that God made to Abraham are promises that He makes to us. And here is our promise: Romans 4:13 For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. The world? What? Not Canaan? No my dear friends, listen to the words of the King of Kings….Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth…..His glory He will not share with another!
